Memory Boxes

Memory Boxes are a primary focal point in person centred care.

Being a uniquely personal item, the Memory Box provides a powerful aid to reminiscence, wayfinding and interaction.

To maximise the benefits of the Memory Box our case study provides suggestions for an effective approach.

Braemount Care Home

Memory boxes are a great, interactive way to improve the Care Home environment but there are ways to get the maximum benefit from them.

Braemount Care Home

Here is an example of one of our clients who uses Memory Boxes to their full potential and is reaping the benefits.

Suzy Varghese is a unit manager at Braemount Care Home in Paisley. The pictures say it all really, but this is how Suzy thinks:

"We ask the families of residents to provide pictures or small objects such as wedding photo’s, old pictures of themselves and family members, badges, medals, things like that. The key thing is that they choose objects we know the residents consistently recognise.

Our residents enjoy looking at their Memory Boxes and they stimulate lots of reminiscence and conversation. They’re also a great way for us to learn something about our residents."

delighted with this positive change...

"On installing the large toilet signs, two residents who had not been able to find the toilet room previously, are now able to do so for the first time.

We are delighted with this very positive change."
